Abraham Released By WWE & Goes On Twitter Rant

WWE announced they have come to terms on the release of A.W. (a/k/a Abraham Washington) as of August 10, 2012, weeks after the boisterous personality made a crass remark on a live program. Upon learning of the news, A.W. went on a multi-post Twitter diatribe ripping the sports-entertainment organization. He stated, “AWPromotions is no more ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for your support and hate, it’s been a great run. Now I get to do me which isn’t PG!

“@TitusONeilWWE & @DarrenYoungWWE thank you for allowing me to speak on your behalf. You guys are the best and I’m glad to call u my friends!

“I’ve offended the wrong people that taught me how to have ATTITUDE It was the #WWE that made me bold and now it has turned it’s back on me

“Let this be a lesson to up and coming talent in the WWE don’t try and be great like the Rock or Stone Cold. WWE isn’t the same…

“Just be normal shut up and be a yes man so you can collect your check and feel like your special. #SELLOUTS!!

“I remember a time when the WWE didn’t care about breaking the mold but now everyone is so afraid of their own shadow. #RemeberTheFans

“Thanks to the fans who showed me support over the whole Kobe thing and to those I upset I apologize again. Remember It’s entertainment folks.”

A.W. then indicates that his termination is tied to WWE chief Vince McMahon’s wife Linda’s pursuit of a United States Senate seat in Connecticut, which many have speculated has led the sports-entertainment organization to steer clear of any controversial matters as to not attract negative press to the campaign.

“I really do hope Linda wins that election because If not then all of this BS has been for nothing. #GoLinda!!” he wrote.

During a live WWE Raw broadcast on July 30, 2012, A.W. made a crass joke referencing NBA player Kobe Bryant’s sexual assault case in 2003 and 2004. As client Titus O’Neil tangled with Kofi Kingston in a singles match, A.W. yelled from ringside, “Titus O’Neil is like Kobe Bryant at a hotel in Colorado hotel room. He’s unstoppable!!” When Raw returned from commercial break following the bout, WWE apologized on-air via announcer Michael Cole and A.W. subsequently issued an apology via Twitter, noting that “there was no malicious intent behind the joke.” After Raw, WWE issued an official apology via TMZ.com stating that they had “taken appropriate action in the matter.”

Prior to joining the main roster this spring, A.W. was a fixture on the final episodes of ECW on Syfy with an in-ring interview segment called “The Abraham Washington Show.” He had been under contract to WWE since 2009, where he also performed for developmental promotion Florida Championship Wrestling.

Washington noted on Twitter that he would doing stand-up comedy going forward, remarking, “If you think that Kobe joke was bad wait till you hear my Vince jokes.”

  • WWA

    that’s one bull.
most of the times, these types of releases are just scripted.
AW needs more attention coz he’s so boring even as a manager, all he does is talk non-sense (literally).

  • Ice

Damn why the hell would they release AW??? i mean this man has some real good mic skills!! the best i seen so far as of yet, and he’s just a manager. He has the great tools to be a manager, and WWE released him??? I can bet money that Kobe Bryant wouldn’t even feel insulted if he heard what AW said. He’ll probably just laugh.

    • iNexus

Kobe wouldn’t be insulted, but all the women that got raped and sexually abused would.

  • Save_Us.Y2K

Is the dude seriously mad be got fired about making a rape joke on live TV or is this a work? Either way….I could care less. This guy is beyond boring.

  • HHH

A.W. is boring ! Who throw’s shoes. I could care less that he is gone!

  • TRazor

No more “HASHTAG MILLIONS OF DOLLAS AND HASHTAG MONEY MAKIN SCHOLAS” huh…

I guess AW’s joke was in bad taste.

Oh well, might as well return to watching the boss of the company mocking his employee’s illness, especially considering that the employee in question was one who brought in the company’s biggest stars and was the greatest announcer. Because that’s totally Being a Star right?

  • Muzlimboy

I hope TNA treats you well AW

  • 40 dawg

Aw wasn’t anything special but like I said a couple weeks ago he was gonna be fired. I guess the only person that can get away with tasteless jokes and commentts is vince, cuz who’s gonna fire him?

    • Guest

      The Board Of Director’s

  • ABG(Angry Black Man)

You know what I bet if Byran,Cena,Punk,Show,Orton,Miz,HHH and etc would of made a Joke of NO Offensive Matter they would of just been suspended and back for a tittle shot WWE If you keep this up, only people who would be there will be is people with no heart

  • Broski

One of AW’s statements make sense. WWE superstars are very careful what they’re saying or else risk getting fired. No wonder WWE promos are boring and childish.

  • b-ri

hes right younger superstars cant reach any pinnacle and be like austin or the rock they will never be main stream austin and rock were on lunchboxes notebooks bus posters but all because they weren’t yes men they decided how their careers ended up these “superstars” will never be anything more than that “superstars” all because wwe has gone soft this isnt ’94 where wwe is the only source of entertainment and even back then wwe was about wrestling not having stupid celebrities come every week and promoting stupid media techniques this is a new day in age and to have two men in the ring talking about bullying and how they’re gonna beat the “crap” out of each other is a spit in the face of people over 13 wwe will be in for a surprise when their little fans grow up and realize their full of shit

  • Buster Cherry

If WWE was worried about it’s image when it comes to Linda’s campaign, the would not tolerate all these “Wellness Policy” violations like Orton over and over

  • Koolaid

Lol what? this dude was the only reason i watched a wwe tag team match :/

  • A.W sucks

    what a faggot

  • iNexus

I like how everyone of you are ignoring that he made a joke on a very sensitive issue. Its one thing to encourage young superstars to be vocal but that doesn’t mean you can make rape joke. Its not the fact that involves Kobe that got him released, its the fact that there are rape victims everywhere and a rape joke is just a BS move from his part. Rape is no laughing matter. You never make a joke about people dying from cancer, do you? I bet if he joked about 9/11 you guys would have wanted him to get released right away. So yeah, I think he deserve to be released for being insensitive. He’s not a big loss anyway and was never a big draw. For Christ’s sake, he’s not even a wrestler.
