Brock Lesnar will face Alistair Overeem in a five round main event Dec. 30 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Overeem recently signed with the UFC.
The winner of the fight will be first in line to face the winner of the November 12th Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos heavyweight title fight.
“This is the fight the fans want,” said UFC President Dana White. “Both of these guys are monsters. Can Lesnar take Overeem down?”
Prior to the fight announcement, White had this to say about Lesnar: “The guy’s been working up on a farm up in Canada all summer. He’s 100 percent. His surgery went great, he’s 100 percent, he’s getting back into training in the next couple of weeks.”
Here’s what Brock had to say recently when asked (video below) about going forward with his MMA career: “Well, recently I went under the knife and had surgery for my diverticulitis. I feel like a new man, I feel great, healthy, strong – I feel like I used to feel. [...] Right now [it's] one day at a time for me. My future, I believe there’s still a bright future in the UFC for me. My health is a hundred percent. I feel great, my motivation is there and I want to get on the map again, I want to become the UFC Heavyweight Champion again and I believe I will do that.”
