Since making her dramatic return at Royal Rumble five months ago, Ronda Rousey has altered the landscape of WWE in the women’s division. Many superstars are now looking to prove themselves by challenging the legendary wrestler.
One such challenger is WWE’s Smackdown Women’s Champion Carmella. Carmella is currently enjoying a lot of success on Smackdown after taking down some of the best in her division like Charlotte and Asuka.
Carmella visited Australia to promote WWE Smackdown which is scheduled to take place on October 6 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and stated her desire to take a fight against the current biggest name of the women’s division. According to a tweet which was shared by wwe.com, she said, “I’ve beaten @MsCharlotteWWE twice, I’m looking for a challenge, @RondaRousey?”
Who is Carmella?
Carmella was the winner of the inaugural women’s Money in the Bank Ladder match in 2017. She won the briefcase after James Ellsworth obtained the briefcase and dropped it to her. Although she was later stripped of it, she regained the briefcase when she won the second Money in the Bank ladder match, again with the help of Ellsworth. After a few unsuccessful attempts, Carmella finally cashed in the contract on Charlotte after holding the briefcase for 287 days.
Charlotte had just survived a vicious attack by debutantes The liconics, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce when Carmella took advantage of the situation and won the belt by hitting Charlotte with a stiff-kick on her face.
However, Carmella won the rematch fair and square at Backlash when she beat Charlotte and established herself in the division.
The champion was close to losing her title to Asuka at Money in the Money pay-per-view but James Ellsworth returned and helped her to win a shock victory.
Ronda Rousey in WWE
Rousey had one of the best debuts in the history of WWE when she teamed up with Kurt Angle to beat Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in a mixed tag team match at Wrestlemania.
Rousey came close to winning the RAW Women’s title but Alexa Bliss interfered and cashed in her Money in the Bank contract to win the championship. It is highly likely Rousey will keep challenging for the title once she returns.
