John Cena just tweeted the following message regarding a major change to WWE’s flagship Monday night show:

The July 23rd show will be RAW’s 1,000th episode.

The announcement of RAW moving to 3-hours every week is now on WWE.com and has also been re-tweeted by John Laurinaitis, Dolph Ziggler, David Otunga and “Road Dogg” BG James.

It was recently reported that WWE’s weekly RAW tapings would be starting close to an hour earlier – and this news explains why. No word yet on whether the extra hour will be the rumored RAW pre-show.

Comment Below and tell us if you think 3-hours of RAW every week is overkill or not.

well we will get more fighting and not just talk that is a good thing in my head that is if you know they do it right wonder what is happening

      • Darwin

yeah, it will surely be an overkill if it’s going to be more talking than fights. wwe just doesn’t seem to be getting their scripts right.

    • Dash Michaels

wonder if it will start an hour earlier or just run until midnight. would make more sense to start at 8pm. just saying…

    • Wrestlehead

I’m in agreement with Darwin on this one. If there is more wrestling then I am all for this format, but if it turns into more talk then surely it’s a bad idea. WCW tried the same format during the Monday Night Wars with Nitro and all it did was water down their product.

It seems that they are adding more matches lately. It’s on and off, and some weeks there will be more matches than others. I think they might be headed in the right direction with more matches, but only time will tell.

    • Bright Lights

They better give every superstar a storyline like the old days. And bring back Super Crazy for good measure.

        Don’t forget Juventud

3 hours is too damn long for one show, not gonna lie. i like raw and all but 3 hours is a long itme

      • Broski

Take out all the commercial and Raw is not even more than 1 hr and 30 mins. Just watch any full Raw episode on Youtube.

Looking forward to this!….they probably gonna have ta hire a bunch of new writers though…3 shows and 6 hours of T.V a week?….that’s a heavy schedule….Is a new breed gonna come up?

@Wrestlehead that was not all of wcw’s problem. They had Goldberg with a 100+ winning streak and he even had the wcw world heavyweight title through it and to have that great storyline screwed up by having kevin nash and the nwo do what they did just out right stupid. Because the fans were coming to see if Goldberg could continue the streak because it was a very high ratings draw if not the highest of that time.

      • Wrestlehead

Oh I agree with you on that one. WCW had MANY problems before it was bought by Vince in 2001. Increasing the length of programming time didn’t help though. We could talk about WCW’s numerous problems but would probably run out of room for other people to comment on this thread.

        • http://www.facebook.com/WolfLink22 Matt Rayfield

yeah they did have many problems but like i stated before the Goldberg winning streak and heavyweight title push that they had going was giving them big ratings pushes and the problems while still noticeable was not the big thing hurting them. If you watched Rise and Fall of WCW then you could clearly see that the nwo gimmick where they wanted bigger pay checks then everyone else on the WCW roster was another big problem and if WWE follows that same route then it won’t be pretty. Not to put down the Goldberg thing, i am saying that WCW’s other problems were not all noticeable at once either. I see WWE heading that way if Johnny Ace stays as GM of both wwe shows.

I think we’re talking about 2 different things here. What I was saying that increasing programming time isn’t a great idea unless they plan to fill that time with actual wrestling. WCW made the mistake of having too much talking/backstage action in order to run a 3 hour show and I was giving that as an example of how not to accomplish a 3 hour show.

Getting back to WCW though, the Goldberg winning streak was something that fans bought into and it was really unfortunate that the bookers couldn’t think of anything else other than rehashing the nWo. Having Hogan beat Nash in the manner that he did (see ‘fingerpoke of doom’) burned a lot of fans because many felt it was a blatant display of backstage power, not to mention a bit of a cheat since they had built Goldberg up for so long. Also many wrestlers were locked up in iron-clad contracts even if they weren’t being used on the roster (Ric Flair turned down millions to sit at home so he could go to WWE in 2001), and when ratings plummeted the company bled money left right and centre.

So it was a combination of bad booking and outright stupid business decisions that did WCW in. I honestly don’t see WWE heading in this direction since they have a long history of ‘rolling with the punches’.

I would love to see more wrestling than maybe wrestlers that no longer wrestle can come back!!

no need for 3 hours just bring bill goldberg and steve austin 2 hours is more than enough.

    • Broski

This is a good move for WWE. 3 hour Raw SHOULD mean more matches or longer(not boring) matches. If you take out all the commercial in a 2-hour Raw, then you only get less than 1 hour and 30 mins as seen on YouTube.

I just hope that they utilise the extra hour wisely.

all of the special raw should be for 4 hours if the show is gonna be for 3 hours permanently
