AAA’s biggest event of the year TripleMania took place last month from Mexico City, Mexico. TripleMania XXVII featured a six-man tag team match where AEW EVP Cody Rhodes teamed with Psycho Clown and Cain Velasquez in a winning effort against Texano Jr., Taurus and Killer Kross.
Following the match Psycho Clown asked Rhodes and Velasquez to join in as they led the crowd in a “puto” chant. This is a derogatory term that is looked down on for its homophobic nature.
SB Nation’s Outsports contacted AEW about what happened at the event and received the following statement from the promotion:
Cody joined his teammates at AAA TripleMania for what he understood to be their post-match tradition in Mexico and was unaware of any negative connotations. Certainly the last thing Cody would want to do is to hurt or offend anyone, anywhere.
